Odegbami Describes Diplomacy Wall Of Fame As Fresh Hope For Ex- Athletes

Segun Odegbami, a former international and football star, has praised Air Peace for the projected Diplomacy Wall of Fame initiative, which is scheduled to be presented in Lagos on July 28.

Odegbami stated that it was thoughtful that the organization honored former athletes who had made the nation proud while they were in their prime. He also stated that it was a new hope for many people who were struggling with various difficulties in all facets of their lives.

Allen Onyema, the Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, stated that all of the necessary procedures have been finalized in order to present honors to a number of the long-forgotten former national athletes.

Participants on the South African Olympic team from 1976, who were forced to withdraw from the competition due to the apartheid regime in South Africa, and members of the South African team that won the African Nations Cup in 1980 are among those who would benefit from the project.

In addition to acting as ambassadors for Air Peace, the former sportsmen will get a total of 12 free round-trip flights on the airline during the course of one year, in addition to one international flight and a monetary award on July 28.

According to Odegbami, the choice to write the athletes' names in gold would signal a turning point in the lives of a large number of the athletes, as well as future athletes who have retired.

The former captain of the Eagles offered his thoughts, saying, "This is a very wonderful concept. It is really heartening to remember that the squad that competed in the Olympics in 1976 did not bring home any medals, but that they are still being honored for their patriotism. It was then up to each of us to determine whether or not we wanted to compete as individuals, but ultimately, we came to the conclusion that it would be more respectful to Nigeria to boycott the Games.

"As I recall, Olusegun Obasanjo, who was serving as Head of State at the time, arranged for a brand new DC 10 aircraft to transport us back to Nigeria. Permit me to also mention that a number of people in the group were quite talented athletes. In a pre-event friendly, the football team defeated the host country Canada 3-0, and everyone's mood was lifted as a result. In addition, the team included notable boxers like as Davidson Andeh and Obisia Nwakpa.

"In the years to come, I anticipate that other business organizations will follow in the footsteps of Air Peace by conceiving of initiatives that will bring smiles to the faces of formerly active athletes."
