Oxlade Reveals Why He Ran Away From Home, Slept Under Bridge

Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, better known by his stage name Oxlade, is a singer who is currently 26 years old. He recently shared some of the experiences he had when he was just starting out as an artist.

He gained recognition in the Nigerian music scene for his unique blend of Afrobeat, RB, and soulful sounds. Oxlade became particularly known for his smooth vocals and his ability to infuse emotion into his music.

He released his debut EP titled "Oxygene" in 2020, which received positive reviews and helped solidify his position as one of the emerging talents in the Nigerian music industry. Some of his popular songs include "Away," "Shugar," and "Hold On."

The singer revealed that his lecturer father disapproved of his plan to pursue a career in music and forced him to elude his family and work a variety of demeaning jobs, such as selling BRT tickets.

After leaving his family in order to pursue a career in music, Oxlade disclosed that he slept beneath the bridge in Abulegba, which is located in the state of Lagos.

He stated, "During that time, I frequently found myself sleeping on the Ojuelegba barrack bridge." To put food on the table, I worked a number of low-paying jobs. I was working as a ticket vendor for the BRT.

"If you don't take your time when creating any music or anything else, it's going to sound like it was done in a hurry. If you rushed in, you had to hurry out as well.I'm not looking for popular songs; rather, I want to hear some old standard. Even though "Away" was released four or three years ago, it is still one of the most popular songs today. Even though "Ku Lo Sa" is a year old, it still has a lot of bang. "O2," seemingly out of nowhere, started blowing up late last year. Even though they were written many years ago, these songs are still relevant today.

"I don't want to reveal names, but I do know of a lot of musicians who released songs in the past year that became incredibly popular but have since been taken off the market. "I'm not trying to impress you; I'm trying to leave an impression that will stick with you for a long time."
