Shaibu Desperate To Succeed Me — Obaseki

The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has accused Philip Shaibu, who serves as his deputy, of plotting to succeed him as governor of the state at any cost in advance of the election for governor of the state, which is slated to take place in 2024.

Obaseki claims that Shuabi is extremely motivated to take over as governor of Edo State in the near future. This statement was made by Obaseki in a video that was published by AIT on Friday. He was speaking to various stakeholders of the People's Democratic Party about the continuous split that exists between him and Shuabu.

The governor emphasized that Shaibu is operating a parallel government within their administration because of his ambition to become governor of the state in the upcoming election.
He explained that, "The constitution of Edo State made me the governor, and it does not give room for a co-governor."

My primary focus has been on bringing together and strengthening our party, which is why I volunteered to supervise the election for the local government.Never once has he approached me with the intention of discussing running. He just stated that he is providing consulting. He (Shaibu) went to Abuja and boasted that he had connections in Abuja, that he has people in the national assembly, that they are all with the president now, and that they will take care of him. He also stated that he has individuals in Abuja who have ties in the national assembly.

He pointed out "That if he cannot get the ticket in PDP, he knows what to do," which means "that he is aware of what to do. "In his explanation of what caused the escalation of their disagreement, Obaseki stated, "During the nomination of the commissioners." The list of nominees from the state's local government was meant to be reviewed by approximately five of us at the same time.

I had called him earlier that morning to invite him to the meeting, but he did not show up. Itsako does not have a commissioner because of this reason. I continued to show him respect by allowing him to propose his nomination whenever he was prepared to do so.

In order to provide further clarification, he continued by saying, "I kept quiet and said that I thought we were together." But something hit me after I announced the House of Assembly, and I have never mentioned this to anybody else: "After I proclaimed the House of Assembly, we were now going to elect officers."He had been in Abuja, and he had returned earlier that day. This state has appointed me as its chief security officer. I am able to acquire whatever knowledge that I require. However, it is incumbent upon me to maintain silence and make appropriate use of the information.

"My deputy called the leader of the APC and told him that during the elections the next day, particularly the speaker of the house of assembly, he will have five members who are loyal to him. He also told the leader that he would like the seven members of the APC to work with his five members of the PDP to produce the next speaker. "During the elections on the next day, particularly the speaker of the house of assembly, he will have five members who are loyal to him.

"As far as I'm concerned, that was not functioning in the interest of our group as a whole. "Why would the deputy governor want to seek out another candidate for the speakership when the governor already has someone in mind?" Are we cooperating with one another?

"That's when I realized we had a problem," she said. that the deputy governor is so eager to succeed his boss that he is willing to do everything to achieve his goal, including leading a military overthrow of the incumbent governor. "How can you say that you are loyal and that you will do such a thing?" "How could you possibly say that?"

According to Obaseki, he has frequently cautioned Shaibu against pursuing the governorship because there is still a significant amount of work to be completed before the transfer that would take place the following year.

It had been previously reported by The PUNCH that Shaibu had gone to the court in order to seek protection from Obaseki in order to avert an anticipated impeachment and expulsion from office.

In a motion on notice presented to the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the appellant seeks an order of interlocutory injunction to stop the respondents or their agents from harassing, intimidating, embarrassing, or preventing the applicant from carrying out the functions of his office as Deputy Governor of Edo State. These functions include attending meetings of the State Executive Council and other functions pending the determination of the substantive suit. The appellant's motion on notice was brought before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
In the meantime, on August 4, in front of the court, Justice Mohammed ordered all of the parties involved in the dispute to keep everything as it was before he ruled on the impeachment motion.

The order that the status quo should be maintained is to remain in effect until the time that the defendants are required to show cause in accordance with a different judgement that the court issued on July 27, 2023.
