Exclusive: Barcelona star’s situation “still open” following Chelsea transfer links.

After Memphis Depay's name was linked to a move to Chelsea during the summer, Barça's Fabrizio Romano has updated the situation.

The Dutch international almost left Barcelona this summer, but he ended up staying and seems to be enjoying a good run of form with Xavi's team.

The Italian journalist remains mum on potential suitors for Depay, but Fichajes reports that Chelsea are still keen in signing the 28-year-old after failing to do so over the summer.

What does the future hold for Memphis Depay?

After losing Timo Werner and loaning out Romelu Lukaku and Callum Hudson-Odoi, Chelsea could need some reinforcement up front. The good news is that it seems Romano does not believe Depay will remain at Barcelona for the long haul.

"It ended up being a bit of a crazy summer for Memphis Depay, but he's ended up staying at Barcelona despite the club being prepared to terminate his contract," Romano said.
After that, what?" In my opinion, the Depay crisis will not be resolved for a few more months. He's a fantastic team player, which is why Xavi is giving him playing time, but his January playing time in Memphis will depend on contract offers.

"Right now, things are calm, and we won't have any major decisions to make until after the World Cup."
