How Sancho and Ronaldo fired Man Utd back on track
United were outplayed early on Thursday night in Moldova, but Sancho finished off a nice team move for his third goal of the season, which he dedicated to a little fan who had given him some personalized shin pads.
In the 37th minute, after being found by Antony, Sancho almost doubled his score and United's advantage with a side-footed attempt that past Sheriff goalkeeper Maksym Koval but was blocked on the line by captain Stjepan Radeljic.
Seconds later, when Patrick Kpozo of the Sheriff made a hasty tackle on Diogo Dalot, Ronaldo increased United's advantage from the penalty spot, sending Koval the wrong way with a shot down the center.
Bruno Fernandes, who seemed irritated the whole night, sought to get in on the action in the second half, but his first-time effort after a low cross from Dalot was sent straight at Koval in the Sheriff goal.
The 37-year-old international felt Eriksen had set him up for goal number 700 in his club career, but Radeljic produced a crucial touch to pull the ball away from Ronaldo.
Sheriff had some promising buildup play, but they were unable to create any clear-cut opportunities or challenge David de Gea in either game. After two games, it seems like Sociedad and United will be vying for first place, with the last meeting in Spain likely deciding the group.
