Olympique Marseille has been tasked by former teammate Mamadou Niang to pursue Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United.

The 37-year-old Portugal international is reportedly pondering quitting the Red Devils, and unexpectedly, the Ligue 1 team has been connected to him. The Manchester giants have only started one of the previous three games with the former Real Madrid star.
The seasoned striker replaced Marcus Rashford in the 86th minute of the previous match at Old Trafford, which the hosts won 2-1. With six days left in the transfer window, the former Senegal international has pushed Marseille to sign the player.

"Everyone has the right to have dreams! It seems like we are still discussing Cristiano Ronaldo "Informed RMC Sport, Niang.

"We all remember the effect [Zlatan Ibrahimovic] had on the PSG supporters when he first joined the team. The city of Marseille and the supporters would benefit from Cristiano Ronaldo's presence."

Niang thinks that despite his advanced age, Ronaldo can still benefit the squad both on and off the field given that they are competing in the Champions League.

Although he is an older player, Niang said, "He can compete today and contribute more on the field and in the locker room.

"I believe that Longoria and McCourt should seize the opportunity to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and at the very least give it a shot. He had a challenging season at Manchester United the previous year.

However, we were able to see him at Juventus, where he was effective and successful. Cristiano Ronaldo would make the squad stronger, in my opinion, and he would offer experience. It's necessary because of the Champions League.

In 30 Premier League games for the Red Devils last season, Ronaldo scored 18 goals and contributed three assists.
