NOA Hails Hilda Bassey, Urges Students To Emulate Her Values

The National Orientation Agency NOA has praised Hilda Effiong-Bassey, commonly known as Hilda Baci, a Nigerian chef, for her astounding achievement of constantly cooking for 100 hours in an attempt to create a new world record.

According to the National Orientation Agency, the attempt, which demonstrates labor dignity, represents essential qualities required for the country's growth and development.

Baci achieved a new record for the longest consecutive cooking hour by an individual on Monday, breaking the previous mark held by Indian chef Lata Tandon, who broke a Guinness World Record for cooking for 87 hours and 45 minutes nonstop in 2019.

Although the accomplishment is yet to be recognized by the Guinness Book of Records, many Nigerians, including the NOA, have praised it.

Garba Abari, the agency's Director General, stressed the relevance of the principles displayed during the cooking contest and urged pupils to follow in the footsteps of chef during a stakeholders conference titled "Re-orientation on National Core Values for Secondary Schools" on Wednesday.

"As part of the core values of the constitution of the nation, this effort shows that there is decency in labor and that everyone can do well in his or her endeavor," said the DG, who was represented by the Director, Human Resources Management, Kehinde Ogunkuade.

"I encourage the student to learn from his or her mistakes." Don't imitate what is bad; instead, practice what is good and have faith that you will be successful in everything you do."

Furthermore, due to the moral decay prevalent in secondary schools, the DG urged for a rethinking of national fundamental values, as youth are important to any nation's growth.

He emphasized the importance of providing children with the tools and morals that will help them to become effective citizens who are accountable.

"The National Orientation Agency recognizes the need to instill national fundamental values in our young people," he stated. These morals, such as integrity, social justice, patriotism, discipline, labor dignity, religious tolerance, and self-reliance, are critical to the development of our kids and our country as a whole.

"Sadly, there has been a decrease in the adoption of these values in our society in recent years, which has impacted the attitudes and behavior of our young people." As adults and parents, many of us have lost sense of the significance of these values and have become indifferent to their function as agents of positive change for our children.

"This is why the National Orientation Agency has decided to launch a re-orientation program for Nigerian secondary school students." Our goal is to enlighten and sensitize them about the significance of these core values, and to equip them to be worthy change agents in their communities."

Audu Amba, president of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, showed concern in his speech that schools are becoming incubators for illicit behavior as well as called for appropriate steps that would discourage children, particularly secondary school students, from taking part in crimes that are contrary to effective teaching.

"Education is a tool for national development and social transformation, and until the education system in Nigeria aims at instilling a sense of nationalism, values, and national unity, as well as building the individual into a morally sound, patriotic, and effective citizen, illicit behavior might remain widespread" he said.

Hence, the Nigeria Presidentshould look into the educational system; as it is the part of making future leaders.
