What the Federal Road Safety Commission is doing to reduce the number of car accidents in Anambra – Official

"Insecurity is also a huge issue. It's not only in Anambra."

The Anambra State division of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has provided an explanation of the preventative steps it is doing to reduce the number of traffic accidents that occur in the state. "We have operational equipment that we employ to enforce the regulation on various sorts of roadways," he added. "We have operational equipment that we utilize."

Mr. Irelewuyi said that the command was also organizing sensitization programs for commercial drivers and other users of the road in an effort to "inform and modify their attitudes against excessive speeding."

According to him, excessive speeding has been shown to be the primary contributor to vehicular mishaps in the state of Anambra.

"Attitude is more essential. It is in everyone's best interest to communicate with the drivers and then step back and allow them determine whether or not they will slow down on their own.

"We educate the general public on a variety of driving topics for various types of motorists. We engage in lobbying by visiting various locations. "We perform early morning sensitization, reaching out to drivers at motor parks to speak to them personally," Mr. Irelewuyi said. "We do this so that they are aware of the issue."

According to a study that was made public by the command in the month of January, between the 17th of December 2021 and the 15th of January 2022, Anambra was involved in 33 car accidents that resulted in 23 fatalities. According to Mr. Irelewuyi, the most recent data on road accidents in the state is not yet accessible; nevertheless, it does seem that there has been an increase in the number of road accidents since the beginning of September. According to him, the primary contributor to the accidents was excessive speeding. "If we have reason to believe that a motorist is operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, we will do some tests on the driver, and if our suspicions are validated, the vehicle may be confiscated," he said.
Mr. Irelewuyi said that the terrible attitudes of drivers and other people who utilize the roads in the state have been their primary obstacle in the state. He said that the negative attitude is shown by many drivers in the form of excessive speeding and irritability.

"It is quite challenging to experience a shift in one's attitude. "It takes some time to disconnect your mind from acting in a certain manner when that behaviour is already ingrained in you," he added. "When you are already habituated to a specific way of behaving."


According to the sector commander, insecurity is another obstacle that hinders their ability to operate in the state.

On the other hand, he said that there has been a decrease in the level of insecurity in Anambra in recent months.

"Like many other nations, we have struggled mightily with feelings of insecurity. However, this is not limited to the state of Anambra. It covers the whole country. He said, "You know, for the time being, we are not carrying weaponry."
