Barcelona right-back expected to leave the club on a free transfer

During the summer transfer window, Barcelona was able to acquire a plethora of new players. While some players, like Robert Lewandowski and Marcos Alonso, have gotten off to strong starts, others have struggled to even get off the ground.

Hector Bellerin is one of them. A free move appeared like a steal at the time, especially considering the former Arsenal defender's reputation and experience playing at the highest level of the sport.

However, three months into the new season, Bellerin has once again suffered from unfortunate injuries, with a knock during the international break keeping him out on the sidelines for a few weeks.

The Spaniard ended up missing a slew of key fixtures during that phase, including the defeat to Real Madrid. However, even with Bellerin now back from injury, the former Arsenal starlet has struggled to make an impression.

The right-back has featured in only one league match since returning from injury. And according to Javi Miguel (h/t FCB World), there is a strong possibility the defender could be released on a free transfer in the upcoming January transfer window.

Bellerin's contract with the club will expire at the end of the season, so he may have a sour homecoming if he leaves Camp Nou after the new year.

Bellerin would be free to sign with any club in January if Barcelona were to grant him a letter of release in the case of his departure. After a great season with Real Betis last year, he is likely to lobby for a transfer back there rather than rejoin Arsenal.

And Barcelona? They'll probably be looking for a new right back during the upcoming transfer window in January. Diogo Dalot has recently been considered, but the club is open to other possibilities as well.
