Corruption, our birth right

Corruption in Nigeria is so normal and rampant now that it seems to be birth right. Why this problem and how can we stop it.

Corruption our birth right.
I was charging my phone on a good day in my course mates hostel, and I joined the conversation that was going on before I came. They were talking about a news where someone who saw a carton filled with wards of cash instead of fish decided to return the carton to the shipping company instead of keeping the money. When I heard what was being said against the person who did this I was confused. So I decided to ask what she did wrong and when I asked that they all looked at me as if I was an alien. Well, I want to bring that question here to all of you. What did she do wrong?.
Corruption and greed has eating so deep into Nigerians that is has now become a birth right. Something every person born in Nigeria is supposed to have. It is now a norm to pay when you don't want to stay on the queue, it is now a norm to rub hand or shake body before someone will do something that he is paid to do. If you want your file to be processed in any Federal or State organization you have to drop something or else uour file will stay on a table for years. What is supposed to be frowned upon by everybody is now seen as a way of life. I will not talk about our leaders or government, no! I will talk about you and me. The people who make up Nigeria.
Everyday we complain about how bad the government is, how corrupt our leaders are, how they steal money and other things meant for the poor masses. My question is if you are voted in power will you do any different?. If I run a survey now and ask eveyone in Nigeria from 18 years and above what they will do different if they are voted in power, I will not be surprised if I hear that the first thing everyone will do is to steal money as much as they can.
We clamour and cry bitterly for change everyday but we don't want to bring out the change. How and where do we now want the chnage to come from. How can we progress in Nigeria if someone is crucified for doing the right thing. If someone decides not to take what does not belong to him we srr that person as a BIG FOOL.
Corruption and greed has eating so deep into us that even in our various houses we practice it. You pad prices of things in the market so that when your husband gives you money you will have enough change to keep, yet you complain when out budget is being padded by our senators. You pad the prices of textbook and use the excuse that "na the only way I fit use get money na" as an escape room. You favour someone because he is from your tribe and speaks your language when you fully know he does not deserve it. You skip the line when you want to buy petrol because you have money to tip the pump.attendant. when you do all these things, why then do you complain when government officials favor their brothers and sisters. Why do.you cry out when they go abroad to receive medical care and send their children school abroad leaving our local schools and hospitals in a deplorable state.
Change will never start from the government, if we eant change we have start it from our own little space. No matter what you are doing, decide to do it right. If we all decide that in our own little way we will change, I tell you that before the next 5 years Nigeria will grow to a level we never dreamt of it. I want to plead with everyone, no matter where you are, a mother, father, student, lecturer and anything we find ourselves doing, decide to do it right. Don't wait till the government start the change, start it yourself today.
