At a news conference held in Lagos, the Chairman of Section, Dr. Monday Ubani, expressed his disapproval of the procedure by which the President is eliminating the subsidy on fuel. He stated that Nigerians are groaning in agony and hardship as a result of this decision.

He stated, "We note that even though the majority of Nigerians do not comprehend the enormous scam that subsidy represents in the oil sector, the process and procedure for the removal of the subsidy was flawed."This has resulted in serious consequences and taken a toll on the hapless population who are always the victims of such government initiatives that are not well thought out. These consequences have also taken a toll on the economy.
It is imperative that the Nigerian people make it abundantly plain to Mr. President that they are in excruciating pain, particularly as a result of the unexpected elimination of the fuel subsidy. An rise in the salaries of civil officials, a population that is infinitesimally small in comparison to the millions of people who are employed in fields other than government, will not be sufficient to resolve the current issue.

It is recommended that more severe and well-thought-out economic packages be put into place in order to buffer the severe consequences that the new policy will have. Once more, Mr. President needs to seek wisdom and the appropriate kind of advise in order to lead the country out of the current deadlock it has found itself in.

Ubani praised the President for removing the Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, and asked for a comprehensive inquiry of the head of the apex bank. Ubani also called for the probe of the Apex Bank chief. In addition to this, he demanded an investigation of the aviation ministry.

Giving details on this year’s NBA-SPIDEL conference with the theme: ‘Post-Election Nigeria: The Judiciary in the eye of the storm’, Ubani disclosed that the Keynote Speaker for the conference is rights activist, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), former NBA President, Dr Olisa Agbakoba, will chair the opening session while Justice Amina Augie of the Supreme Court will feature as a guest speaker during the opening ceremony.

The event, which will take place in Lagos, is anticipated to draw a significant number of prominent figures from the legal community, as well as governors and members of the National Assembly.

Dr. Ubani also requested that Mr. President examine into the fraud that was performed on "Air Nigeria" by the previous Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, before he resigned.
He stated that "if the assertion by the Managing Director of Nigeria Air, Dayo Olumide, during a Senate hearing that the aircraft said to be for Air Nigeria was merely a chartered flight from Ethiopian Airline to hoodwink Nigerians," then he said: "If the assertion by the Managing Director of Nigeria Air, Dayo Olumide." We strongly encourage Mr. President to appoint a team of highly qualified investigators to look into the massive fraud that has made Nigeria a punchline in the aviation industry around the world.

Ubani congratulated the President on his decision to remove Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and demanded an investigation of his time in office.
