On Wednesday, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal meet Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in a tantalizing Premier League championship clash at the Emirates Stadium. Arteta was the apprentice while Guardiola was the master at Barcelona.

The Gunners want to avoid losing their third straight league game while a win for the Citizens would give them the chance to overtake the league leaders, the North Londoners.
Arsenal's dreams of winning the Premier League for the first time in almost two decades are still alive, but the team has stumbled in recent weeks, losing 1-0 at Everton and drawing 1-1 with Brentford at home.
Leandro Trossard scored his first goal for the Gunners shortly after the hour mark after coming off the bench, but VAR made a "major blunder" by failing to flag Ethan Pinnock or Christian Norgaard for offside, and the latter set up Ivan Toney for an equalizer in the 74th minute.

Since November, Arsenal has been at the top of the Premier League. However, after losing points in three of their past five games, their formerly eight-point advantage has been trimmed to just three, and their undefeated home run will be put to the test by the defending champions on Wednesday.

The Gunners have never had a longer losing streak against a single opponent in Premier League history than their 13-game losing streak against Manchester City, which ended with a 1-0 defeat in the FA Cup fourth round last month.

Arsenal still have 16 league matches remaining, including a game in hand on their rivals, so a loss to Guardiola and co. would not be catastrophic, but a statement win on Wednesday would provide a major boost for Arteta's side heading into a favorable run of seven consecutive fixtures against none of the so-called top six clubs.

Man City replied defiantly on Sunday by beating Aston Villa 3-1 in front of a riled Etihad crowd after being accused of breaking more than 100 financial regulations by the Premier League and facing the threat of unprecedented sanctions, including points reductions or expulsion.

In fact, the booing of the Premier League anthem, the singing of songs in support of the club's owners and manager, and the display of numerous comedic banners appeared to galvanize City's players, who scored three times in the first half on goals from Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan, and Riyad Mahrez to put the game away before Villa's Ollie Watkins scored an equalizer midway through the second.

City's next challenge takes place at the Emirates against an Arsenal side looking to snatch their top-flight crown, and Guardiola, who now has the most Premier League wins (184) as a manager after 250 games, will be pleased to see his side bounce back from their disappointing 1-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur a week prior.

Guardiola's squad will be motivated to win on Wednesday by the fact that they can go to the top of the league, although on goal difference, and by the fact that the Citizens have won each of their past six away meetings against Arsenal in all competitions.

However, City's away history this season has left a little to be desired, as they have won just six of their 14 away games across all competitions. They come to the Emirates having lost their past two away Premier League games against Manchester United and Spurs.
