What the Buhari government ought to be known for in the field of healthcare – Ehanire

Doctors should be proud to work in our country and not feel compelled to leave.

Osagie Ehanire, the Minister of Health, has said that he desires for the current government to be recognized for achieving Universal Health Coverage by increasing the number of Nigerians who have access to medical treatment (UHC).
He made this statement during the ministerial forum that was hosted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), universal health coverage (UHC) means that everyone is able to get the medical care they require at the time and place they require it, without having to worry about the cost.

One of the aims set for 2030 by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is to achieve universal health coverage.

The minister, on the other hand, stated that he was unsure as to whether or not up to fifty percent of Nigeria's population is currently covered; consequently, increasing coverage would really be a benefit for the current administration.

To ensure that Nigerians have faith in our nation's healthcare system, it is imperative that medical treatment be made available across the whole country, and that its standard of care continuously advance.

"Doctors should also be proud of working in our country and shouldn't believe that in order to find happiness, they have to go abroad by any means possible."

Therefore, we want to ensure that this is handled properly, and this is the quality that the administration hopes to be recognized for.

"The president himself has made election promises to people, and they will also be happy with what he has been able to deliver under his own regime because what we are doing, we are doing in his name," he added. "The people will also be happy with what he has been able to deliver under his own regime because what we are doing, we are doing in his name."

Regarding the Family Planning (FP) program and its ability to meet its goals and budget, Mr. Ehanire stated that the government was doing its part in accordance with the agreement it had made with the United Nations Population Fund. He claims that the UNFPA and the government have come to an agreement regarding what the government should propose, and that the government has been following the terms of the agreement.

"Each of us is doing our assigned duties. The cooperation shown by the Ministry of Finance in releasing the funds has been very much appreciated. In point of fact, we are getting ready to go to a meeting that will be discussing family planning issues with the goal of increasing the contraceptive prevalence rate from where it is currently at to somewhere between 70 and 80 percent.

Therefore, it is our hope that by holding that conference, we will inspire partners to carry on. First and foremost, we will communicate to them the extent of our plans and ask that they maintain the level of support that they have been providing for us in order to achieve the outcomes that we have set out to achieve.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigeria was one of the original FP2030 commitment makers in 2012, and the country formally launched its National FP2030 Commitment in March of 2022.

In light of this, the government has committed to further bolstering the integration of family planning into the socio-economic framework of the country, including UHC.

In addition to this commitment, the government has stated that it will increase funding for family planning by devoting one percent of the annual health budgets for both the national and state levels to sexual and reproductive health.
