Manchester United had eight managers on their list of targets before choosing Erik ten Hag

Manchester United reportedly had eight managers on their list of targets before ultimately deciding on Ajax boss Erik ten Hag to come in as the long-term successor to interim manager Ralf Rangnick this summer.

In the end, Manchester United decided to hire Ajax manager Erik ten Hag as their long-term replacement for interim manager Ralf Rangnick this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Thomas Tuchel, Julen Lopetegui, Brendan Rodgers, and Zinedine Zidane were all considered by the Red Devils, according to ESPN, who stated that the seven names on their shortlist included Ten Hag.

It's a huge tribute to Ten Hag that Manchester United chose him over some of these other outstanding managers, many of whom have won more titles and achieved greater success at larger teams than the Dutch strategist.

Pochettino, in particular, appeared like a good fit for Manchester United, but Ten Hag's Ajax culture and philosophy also made him a viable option.

While it was previously claimed that Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers had a verbal agreement with United this season, the club has now picked a different decision, and it's apparent that he was one of several options to be explored at the time.
