This device costs £779 in the UK, with its 256GB version costing a further £59. The price rises to £879 for the 512GB version in the country.

Designs and colours

A squared-edge design is included in all three new models. Blue, pink, starlight, and midnight are the five colors available. Soft pink can seem virtually white in some lighting conditions.

A 6.1-inch screen is on the front of the iPhone 13 and a 5-inch screen is on the 13 Mini. Similar to the 12 and 12 Mini, they both use OLED displays. A notable improvement in brightness was given to the 13 and 13 Mini, while the Pro versions received an update and high refresh rates.

Colors aren't the only thing that has changed. The two rear-facing cameras are now housed in a redesigned camera bump. A single alteration might be enough to alert folks. As soon as I put it to the test, numerous people approached and inquired whether it was the "new iPhone."

Another distinction is the narrower width of the notch. Although it's definitely an improvement, I still have mixed feelings about it in terms of its aesthetics. However, a 20% reduction in size is acceptable to me.

A Ceramic Shield covers the display, and the phones have an IP68 classification for dust and water resistance, which means they can withstand submersion for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 6 meters (approximately 20 feet). The ones I examined were able to withstand an afternoon summer rainfall with ease.

Both phones are physically heavier, however I was unaware of this until I looked at the specifications. If the additional 7 to 10 grams are due to a larger battery, I'm happy to accept the additional weight. Both the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Mini were able to last a full day on a single charge even though I only had them for five days. The 3 p.m. recharge on the 12 Mini is a reality for me, but I don't see it on the 13 Mini. Even on a typical day of use, the iPhone 13 Mini's battery lasts longer than last year's regular-sized iPhone 12 model.

Camera updates

Stabilization of the wide-angle camera is based on the camera's sensor. For the larger camera module, Apple claims the cameras were positioned diagonally to save space on the phone. To put things in perspective, the iPhone 13's primary camera sensor has pixels that are the same size as those on the iPhone 12 Pro Max from a year ago, which featured the biggest sensor on an iPhone at the time. Using a new sensor, the wide-angle camera is able to capture more light.

Although these enhancements didn't make a huge impact in actual usage, I could see a difference when I saw it. Pictures I shoot in medium lighting have less picture noise. Even in low light, the ultrawide has an advantage. Compared to the rear cameras, the front-facing selfie camera is adequate but not exceptional.

Cinematic mode

Cinematic mode is a much-touted new camera function. Cinematic mode is similar to Portrait mode for video, except unlike Portrait mode, which just blurs the backdrop, Cinematic mode may focus on one topic at a time. This causes either the foreground or backdrop to be out of focus. Nearly everyone I showed a Cinematic video to was mesmerized by the impact.

Cinematic mode records 1080p footage at 30 frames per second using the two rear cameras in stereoscopic mode. It's possible to adjust the iPhone's focus during the recording, but it's not as simple as that. The best part is that once you've recorded a video, you can go back and modify who is in focus, when to switch focus from one person to another, and adjust the aperture to enhance or reduce the depth of field.

The A15 Bionic chip

The iPhone 13's A15 Bionic processor is responsible for all of the iPhone 13's camera wizardry and other functions. I used it for gaming, video editing, FaceTime chats, and augmented reality applications all the time. An interesting tidbit: The A15 CPU in the 13 and Mini has four cores, however it has a five-core A15 on the pro and max models. I couldn't tell the difference between the two when I tried them out in practice. In benchmark testing, on the other hand, yes. The GeekBench 5 scores of the four phones were the same, while the Pro versions performed better in the 3D Mark gaming performance test.

During my time using the new iPhones, I found that iOS 15 performed great. No major changes have been made to iOS 15 and it appears to be a continuation of iOS 14. It isn't characterized by a few large, showy elements. ' Instead, iOS 15 is a collection of hundreds of smaller changes that together make a major difference. iOS 15 is a substantial upgrade for your phone, from Memoji customization options to improved Maps visuals.

And that’s a wrap.
