Preview: Manchester City vs. Nottingham Forest - prediction, team news, lineups

When they host Nottingham Forest at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, Manchester City will be going for their second consecutive Premier League victory.

The defending champions enter the match after Saturday's 4-2 win over Crystal Palace, while the host team Forest lost 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Erling Braut Haaland scored an incredible hat trick for Man City as they came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Crystal Palace 4-2 on Saturday in the Premier League.
After four matches, Pep Guardiola's team is now in second place in the league, 10 points behind Arsenal, having won three and drawn one.

After winning their first two league games against West Ham United and Bournemouth, City played to an exciting 3-3 draw with Newcastle United on August 21. It seemed like City might lose more points versus Palace on Saturday, but a stellar second half performance won a crucial victory.

Man City's next two league games are against Forest and Aston Villa, and then on September 6 they'll travel to Sevilla for their first Champions League game of 2022-2023.

Guardiola's squad is once again the favorite to win the Premier League, and they'll be hoping that the addition of Haaland will give them a boost in the Champions League.

This will be the first league encounter between Forest and Man City since the Citizens triumphed 3-0 in Manchester, England, in March 2002. The last time the two teams met in the FA Cup was in January 2009, when Forest won 3-0.

In December 1997, the two-time European Cup champions recorded a 3-2 victory against Man City in a Premier League matchup.
The 2022-23 season has gotten off to a promising start for Steve Cooper's squad, who sit in 14th place in the standings after collecting four points from their first four games.

Forest's season started with a loss on the road against Newcastle United, but they bounced back with wins over West Ham United and Everton in their following two games and an EFL Cup triumph over Grimsby Town on August 23.

The newly promoted team will enter the encounter on the tail of a loss after falling 2-0 at home to Tottenham on Sunday. England captain Harry Kane scored both goals.
