Salah vs Mane: Big moments of 2021/22 compared

Picking out three stand-out landmarks each for the erstwhile Liverpool teammates in the preceding season

Mohamed Salah: Becoming Premier League Centurion

In a thrilling 6 goal thriller at the Brentford Community Stadium in September, Liverpool and the Bees drew 3-3 with Brentford.

Salah scored the third goal in that match to give the team his 100th Premier League goal.

With his goal in the 54th minute, the Egyptian superstar surpassed Roger Hunt, who needed 152 games to reach the century mark, as the man with the most league goals in a Reds jersey.

Sadio Mane: Becoming a Premier League centurion

Despite suffering a shocking 3-0 setback to the same opponents before to the epidemic, Liverpool's 5-0 demolition of Watford was predicted.

However, the Senegal star's victory that afternoon in mid-October made him the third African, behind Didier Drogba and Salah, to score 100 Premier League goals.

It was satisfying for the Reds forward, who later made league history by becoming the first player to score 10 or more goals in a row with a brace against Leeds United in February.

Dismantling Manchester United at Old Trafford

In addition to humiliating the United supporters, Salah established a number of records with a devastating 5-0 demolition of the Red Devils on their sacred ground in October.

With his hat-trick, Liverpool's striker became the first player since Ronaldo in 2003 to score three goals at Old Trafford, the first Premier League opponent to score three goals there, and the first Reds player to score three goals in a row at the Theatre of Dreams as he scored for the club's 10th straight game—another first.

Salah also replaced Didier Drogba as the highest-scoring African in the Premier League thanks to his goals.

That pressure penalty to seal Africa Cup of Nations success

The conversion of the spot-kick to throw Senegal supporters into an ecstasy in February epitomized the term "Mentality Monster" well.

Mohamed Abou Gabal had saved Mane's early penalty against Egypt, but he stood up when his country needed him most to secure their first continental victory.

That determined action embodied the character of the guy who, despite making a mistake earlier, did not run away but instead accepted responsibility by kicking the rocket-propelled penalty that won the championship.

Claiming a third Golden Boot

Salah equaled Son Heung-min for the top scoring spot on the last day of the season with a goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the 84th minute.

The accolade was shared by the two players who ended with 23 goals each, with the Egyptian winning it three times since joining Liverpool in 2017.

He beat Didier Drogba, who won it twice at Chelsea, to become the only African to win the individual award three times. He is also just one Golden Boot behind record holder Thierry Henry (four).

Consolation for failing to win another Premier League championship came in the form of season's top scorer and Playmaker of the Year awards.

Wembley heroics against Manchester City

The Anfield giants overcame the Citizens after three attempts in 2021–2022, and thanks to a brace, they advanced to their first FA Cup final in ten years.

Liverpool defeated Man City 3-2 that day to end a 10-year wait for a crack at the oldest cup competition in sports, and they went on to defeat Chelsea in the championship game.

The victory was the team's first FA Cup triumph since a Steven Gerrard-inspired victory in the 2006 final against West Ham United, which gave the Merseyside giants eight championships.
