Cristiano Ronaldo: Manchester United unsure if striker will attend pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia

Cristiano Ronaldo has not reported back to training at Carrington citing family reasons, which the club have accepted

Cristiano Ronaldo's participation in Manchester United's preseason tour of Thailand and Australia remains uncertain as of yet.

The 37-year-old has not returned to Carrington for training, and the club has accepted his excuse that he has family obligations.
Ronaldo was scheduled to reunite with his teammates on Monday, but has spent the previous several days staying in shape at Portugal's training facility, Cidade do Futebol.
According to reports from Sky Sports News, Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, has been pitching the "Cristiano impact" to clubs over the last several weeks after compiling data on his client's massive sponsorship, social media, and "new markets" reach.
Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, is one of the executives who is hearing the pitch and is thinking about making a change.

While United maintains that Ronaldo is not for sale, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Napoli have all shown interest in the player. If a bid from an international club is made, United's position is anticipated to change.

The team does not want the issue to overshadow Erik ten Hag's preseason activities or new additions, namely full-back Tyrell Malacia, who will soon be introduced, and Christian Eriksen, who has verbally agreed to join.

Frenkie de Jong has a basic deal with Barcelona, while Lisandro Martinez is still the subject of more extensive discussions.
Ajax and the attacker have also been in discussions, but according to new manager Alfred Schreuder: "He is under contract till 2025. The club is aware of my desire to collaborate with him."
If Ronaldo does go, Ten Hag will need to broaden his offensive objectives since the club is already worried about their lack of a goal threat going into the next season.

Last season, Ronaldo scored 24 goals in all competitions, but United finished with their lowest-ever Premier League point total.

The Portuguese international's second term at the club would be considered over if he missed the trip.

Next Tuesday, United will play Liverpool in Bangkok to kick up preseason play before traveling to Australia for friendlies against Melbourne City, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa.

Pedro Sepulveda, a Portuguese football analyst who appeared on Sky Sports News:

"On Friday, Ronaldo was in Lisbon. Although he has many residences in Portugal, he is now residing in a hotel and spending the whole day practicing at the same facility as the Portuguese national team. He goes there every day to workout, sometimes by himself. He went there alone on Friday and with several buddies on Saturday. He posed for several photos with some of the young Portugal players that train there. We mistakenly believed he was traveling to Manchester last evening to take part in preseason practice, but this morning we discovered he has some personal matters to attend to.

The key issue right now is whether Ronaldo will handle these matters while remaining in Lisbon or whether they are temporary concerns, in which case he will go to Manchester in the coming days to be with his teammates and wait to see how his future unfolds.

"I believe Ronaldo will remain in Lisbon for a few more days, and Jorge Mendes will attempt to pressure Ronaldo into making the deal.

"There aren't many clubs that can offer Ronaldo a deal, if you look at them. Additionally, there aren't many groups that can contend for the Champions League. Bayern Munich has said that Ronaldo is not a part of their plan. Real Madrid is the clear front-runner in Spain, and Barcelona cannot compete. Real Madrid is no longer interested in a player like Ronaldo, and he will never play for Barcelona.

"I can only see chances in England, but do you think Ronaldo would wear a jersey other than Man United in the Premier League? Can he join a different team? You have Liverpool and Chelsea, about which we already know that the new Chelsea owner spoke with Jorge Mendes.

"We don't need to discuss his finances, just look at the cash he already has. The project itself is what matters, not the money. Ronaldo cannot now play a season at Sporting Lisbon. One of the finest players in the world, he is still performing at the highest level. not for what he did, but for what he is doing right now. Sporting Lisbon is a possibility for Ronaldo, but not just now, in my opinion. Ronaldo will only join a team capable of competing for the Champions League when he departs. Although Ronaldo wants to play in the United States as well, Sporting will have to wait. In the future, that may happen, but not during current transfer window. These groups are vying for Ronaldo's attention and support."

At the start of June, Ronaldo said that he was "extremely glad" to stay at United and anticipated that they would improve after a disastrous 2021/22 season.

But the Portugal skipper has changed his mind only one month later. Sky Sports examines the arguments in favor of and against his prospective exit.

Twelve years after leaving Manchester for Real Madrid, the 37-year-old came back last summer and scored 24 goals in 38 games to finish as the team's leading scorer in all competitions.

Ronaldo had a successful season in front of goal, but the squad had a terrible season. United didn't win a trophy for the seventh straight season as they finished sixth in the Premier League.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has competed in the Champions League for 19 straight seasons, and it's believed that United's inability to make the tournament is a major factor in his desire to leave the club once again.

Ronaldo's future is now an unpleasant distraction as United's players try to win over new manager Erik ten Hag ahead of their Premier League opener against Brighton on August 7, live on Sky Sports.
