Watch Chelsea vs Aston Villa LIVE! (Premier league).

Chelsea will embark on a quest for only their second Premier League victory of the season this Sunday, as they prepare to host Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

Under the management of Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea has had a modest start to the season, accumulating just five points from their first five league fixtures. Meanwhile, their opponents, Aston Villa, are eager to secure a spot in the top six by achieving a second consecutive victory in the Premier League.

After a disappointing campaign last season that saw Chelsea finish in 12th place with a meager 44 points, their lowest tally in the Premier League era, the club made the strategic decision to appoint Mauricio Pochettino with the goal of revitalizing their fortunes in the new season. Unfortunately, the Blues have once again encountered a sluggish start.

Their season opener at home against Liverpool resulted in a commendable 1-1 draw, thanks to Axel Disasi's equalizer. However, their momentum was halted as they suffered a 3-1 defeat away to London rivals West Ham United in the subsequent match. Michail Antonio's goal restored the lead for the hosts after Carney Chukwuemeka had equalized for Chelsea in the first half, and Lucas Paqueta sealed the victory with a late penalty.

Chelsea then secured their first competitive victory under Pochettino by defeating newly-promoted Luton Town 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, with Raheem Sterling netting a brace and Nicolas Jackson adding another goal. Nevertheless, their optimism was short-lived as they headed into the international break following a setback.

Their encounter at home against Nottingham Forest remained goalless in the first half, but Anthony Elanga quickly broke the deadlock early in the second period. Despite their efforts, Chelsea failed to find an equalizer and left the field empty-handed. The disappointment continued as they faced Bournemouth last Sunday, resulting in a frustrating goalless draw.

As Chelsea navigates their first season without continental football since the 2016-17 campaign, they enter the upcoming weekend well-rested. However, with just five points from five matches under Pochettino's leadership, they are acutely aware of the need to reverse their fortunes swiftly, starting with the clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, to prevent falling further behind the leading teams at this stage.

Standing in their path is an Aston Villa side under the guidance of Unai Emery, looking to build on a more positive start to their first full season with him at the helm. Despite a dismal opening day defeat, where they suffered a 5-1 thrashing away at Newcastle despite Moussa Diaby briefly equalizing, Aston Villa quickly turned the tide.

They secured their first league victories with commanding 4-0 and 3-1 wins over Everton and Burnley, respectively. In these triumphs, John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Leon Bailey, Jhon Duran, and Matty Cash played pivotal roles. Aston Villa also demonstrated their prowess in the Europa Conference League playoff round by decisively defeating Hibernian over two legs with an aggregate score of 8-0, securing their place in the group stage.
