Atiku Blackmailing Judiciary, Yet To Recover From Shock Defeat – Tinubu

According to President Bola Tinubu, the purported attempt by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the People's Democratic Party (PDP), to blackmail the judicial system will be unsuccessful.

Tinubu stated that Atiku's most recent comment demonstrated that he had not yet recovered from the devastating loss he suffered in the presidential election of 2023. He gave Atiku the challenge of proving that his administration was not attempting to undermine the judiciary in some way.

Atiku's statements are full of innuendo, insinuations, and blatant lies, according to the president's spokesman, Dele Alake, who issued a statement on the president's behalf.

According to Alake, "We have read the laughable and jejune statement by former Vice President and candidate for President of the People's Democratic Party in the most recent election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar."

"It is clear that the former Vice President, having been soundly defeated by the All Progressives Congress and now President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has not fully recovered from the shock of defeat. This is the reason for the current attempt to deviously rake up another round of inanities that offend basic logic and rational thinking. It is obvious that the former Vice President has not fully recovered from the shock of defeat.

"Alhaji Atiku accused the current administration of the governing APC of attempting to destroy the judiciary without providing any shred of evidence. The statement was poorly thought out and irrational. Former Vice President Atiku did not put forward any convincing argument to support his claims on how the administration led by President Tinubu and the APC sought to undercut, undermine, and compromise the judiciary. Instead, the statement contained a number of innuendos, insinuations, and outright lies.

If the claims that the former Vice President believes in democracy and the sanctity of the Judiciary are true, then he would not engage in creating frivolous and absurd allegations with the intention of denigrating and discrediting a significant branch of the government that should be serving as the bulwark for our democracy.

Even though he is a party to a matter that is currently being heard by the Presidential Election Petition Court, he has shamefully resorted to this cheap attempt to intimidate and blackmail members of the Judiciary.

"Let it be mentioned that when it comes to subjects of battling for democracy and democratic values, rule of law, and independence of Judiciary in Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu stands shoulder above Atiku Abubakar. This is so because President Tinubu has been a staunch advocate for all of these things. Alhaji Atiku was nowhere to be found at the time when President Tinubu was leading the charge against the emasculation of the judiciary and promoting the sanctity of rule of law as the building block for good governance as Governor of Lagos State between 1999-2007, while the PDP was in power at the federal level.

"It is public knowledge and to President Tinubu's immortal credit that, using the instrumentality of the law and the Judiciary, he successfully challenged many of the draconian and odious decisions of the PDP-led Federal Government that trammeled on the rights of the States as federating units. This is documented, and it is to his eternal credit. Tinubu, who served as governor of Lagos State at the time, led his state to victory in over 13 cases that went all the way up to the Supreme Court, where they were brought against the hydra-headed PDP administration in Abuja.

According to the statement, Tinubu has no ability to subvert the judicial system because he was victorious in the most recent election.

"No leader with such a sterling and enviable credential as a champion of rule of law, independence of judiciary as President Tinubu will ever consider undermining the Judiciary as Alhaji Atiku has alleged," Tinubu said in response to Atiku's accusation.

"President Tinubu was victorious in an election that was free, fair, and credible. The Presidential election held on February 25, 2023, which resulted in him being elected is the most transparent election that has ever been held in Nigeria since 1999.

"President Tinubu and the APC have absolutely no reason to undermine the judiciary in the hope of any favorable judgement," he went on to say. "This is a complete non-issue."
