NLC, Ajaero Playing Politics, Acting Labour Party’s Script – Onanuga

Bayo Onanuga, who once served as the Director of Media and Publicity for the Presidential Campaign Council of the defunct All Progressives Congress, has reportedly requested that Nigerian workers disregard the appeal made by Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, to par

This call was made by Onanuga on Saturday, and it was issued in a message that was issued via his verified Twitter profile.

It is important to keep in mind that the President of the NLC had issued directions and proposed a strike to begin on Wednesday in response to the elimination of the fuel subsidy.

On the other hand, Onanuga claimed that the union led by Ajaero is engaging in political maneuvering and following the directives of the opposition Labour Party, LP.
His account suggests that the purpose of the demonstration was to make President Bola Tinubu's administration more unstable.
The statement said, in part, that "NLC President Joe Ajaero has asked workers to go on strike next Wednesday over the removal of petrol subsidy, despite being privy to the distressing financial figures, which justified why subsidy ought to have been scrapped a long time ago." The statement further said, "Despite being privy to the distressing financial figures, which justified why subsidy ought to have been scrapped long before now."

"My recommendation to the astute workers and the general population of Nigeria is to simply disregard Ajaero and those like him. He is engaging in political posturing and is in fact following the script laid forth by the opposition Labour Party, which is working to destabilize the fledgling administration of Tinubu.

"Besides, one has to consider whose interests Ajaero is advocating for, given that he did not criticize the position of his Labour Party and presidential candidate, who ran for office with the pledge to eliminate the subsidy beginning on the first day of their administration if they were elected.

"Leaders of the NLC and TUC have known since November of the previous year that the subsidy will be eliminated as of July 1 because there has been no provision made in the budget for it beyond this date.

"The Federal Government, which already devotes 96% of its revenue to servicing the debt it owes, is not in any position to continue selling subsidized fuel, the majority of which is smuggled across our borders for criminal and obscenely unpatriotic profit," according to the article.

Onanuga stated that the fuel subsidy could not be sustained in light of the fact that the FG is extremely close to being bankrupt.

He mentioned that in addition to its N77 trillion debt, the federal government also owed around N2.4 trillion to the NNPC Limited for subsidies it had provided in the past.

He stated, "The Nigerian people and workers should support the government as it works out new wages and rolls out other interventions, as promised by President Tinubu, to mitigate the effects of the new fuel price." He was referring to the recent increase in the price of fuel.

"Let's not make ourselves pawns in the hands of the politically biased and tainted NLC and TUC." "Let's not make ourselves pawns in the hands of the NLC and TUC." Ajaero is no more a labour leader. He is a prominent politician who currently serves as the head of the Labour Party. "He is no longer speaking for all of the workers in Nigeria," he went on to say.
