On the last day of the 2022-23 Premier League season, Manchester United will host Fulham at Old Trafford hoping to finish in third place in the standings.

The Red Devils secured their berth in the 2019-20 Champions League with a 4-1 victory against Chelsea on Thursday night. Fulham, currently in 10th place, will travel to face the Red Devils on the heels of a 2-2 draw with London rivals Crystal Palace.

United's 4-1 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford on Thursday night ensured Erik ten Hag's squad a place in the Premier League's top four heading into the season's final day of play.

Man United needed just a point to qualify for the Champions League, but they won all three thanks to an outstanding performance, and now they are in third place, two points clear of fourth-placed Newcastle United, who will play their last game of the season on the road against Chelsea.

The 20-time English champions ended a drought of six years without a trophy when they won the EFL Cup at the end of February. They will face Manchester City in the FA Cup final next weekend, hoping to win back-to-back domestic titles and spoil City's triple chances.

Manchester United have bounced back strongly after back-to-back losses to Brighton Hove Albion and West Ham United with victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bournemouth, and Chelsea at Old Trafford. Their home form has been crucial to their success this season.

With only nine goals conceded in 18 league games at Old Trafford this season, the Red Devils boast the greatest home defensive record in the Premier League.

There is no real pressure on Man United in this game, but after their match against Chelsea, Ten Hag stressed the significance of claiming third, and the Red Devils need a win to ensure finishing ahead of Newcastle, so they will be playing Fulham on Sunday hoping to extend their unbeaten streak against the Cottagers to 16 games.

It was always going to be Fulham's top aim in 2022-23 to consolidate back at this level after they were promoted to the Premier League the previous season by winning the Championship.

For the first time since 2014, the Cottagers have secured consecutive seasons in the Premier League thanks to a stellar campaign that has yielded 52 points from 37 games and a current position in 10th place.

Whatever happens this last weekend, Marco Silva's side will finish 10th, marking their first top-half position in England's premier flight since finishing ninth in 2011-12.

Meanwhile, Fulham enters Sunday's encounter riding high after collecting seven points from their last three contests, including a 2-2 home tie with Palace in their most recent outing.

On May 13th, Silva's squad secured a 2-0 victory away at Southampton, and they have been quite successful on the road this season, with 23 points from 18 games, just four fewer than Man United have managed away from Old Trafford in 2022-23.

Next season, Fulham will want to expand on their success, and the club will do anything it can to maintain its head coach, who has been linked to both Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.
