My experience in Affiliate Marketing spans over a decade! I have seen lots of ups and downs in the industry. However, it's been worth it!

During these years of carrying on with Affiliate Marketing, I have also assisted many folks in finding their feet in the lucrative online business. The reason I could help others is that I have been successful myself.

Interestingly, not a few of my proteges have become effective in the affiliate network. 

It is important to note that, though, many are making it in the business. But there are those who have not found their feet successfully in Affiliate Marketing.

Many succeed in Affiliate Marketing, and others fail in the same line of business is, sometimes, difficult to fathom.

However, in this piece, I have explained eight (8) steps that helped me succeed in my Affiliate Marketing journey. I hope that as you also follow these steps, you will become a successful affiliate.

Leverage Technology:

Affiliate Marketing is advancing in a more sophisticated dimension, especially as we experience advancements in technology.

If you are using the shortcut method in affiliating, you will not last because as cutting-edge technology is developed, the shortcut will continue to disappoint. Perhaps, for such a person using a shortcut in his campaign, Affiliate Marketing is dead.

To be a successful affiliate, you only need to play around with new strategies and innovations as they develop. The Affiliate Marketing business keeps evolving; you have to keep abreast with the changing times.

Affiliate Marketing helps you build wealth through passive income generation; the business has and will ever remain successful!  

Be Passionate About Your Job/business:

Passion is the first key to success, in the affiliate industry, and as a general rule. If you do not love what you are engaged in, it won't be easy to succeed.

Now, the fact is, if you are doing Affiliate Marketing for the sake of the money, there is no difference between you and an employee marketer who is displeased with his job but had to do it nonetheless because of the money.

Passion imbues tenacity, doggedness, and patience to hold on to your work even in the face of challenges.

Passion for what you are doing will help you be creative and innovative which are essential ingredients to success as an Affiliate Marketer.

Be Patient to Learn the Ropes:

Patience, as earlier identified, is essential in your affiliate journey. 

If, in your first month, you want to hit $6000. Please, think again.

With patience, as you build your business or job one step at a time, you will hit the goldmine in no time.

Affiliate Marketing, you have to learn about the psychology of your customers- their buying behavior, taste, etc. You also need to understand how to tailor your products to suit that psychology. It may take you a few weeks or months, depending on how fast you learn and deploy your knowledge.

Do Not Be a Loner: Learn the Skills:

It is wise to make it a habit to learn from others, especially those ahead of you in the business. It is unwise to think you know it all and therefore wants to do things without learning from others.

You can learn from others in different ways. Among such ways include- 

Joining affiliate forums, Facebook affiliate-related groups, Instagram groups, etc. Besides, the best and most effective way to learn faster is to identify a successful affiliate and pay your way through. 

Learning the skills and associating with like-minded affiliates will help you accelerate your growth in the business and make more money, thereby making you successful in no time.

I need to mention that many affiliate networks also hire successful affiliates to assist in training newbies. You can also take advantage of that provision.

However, a personal coach is the best option.

A Better Understanding About the Product You are Affiliating:

A quicker way to kill your enthusiasm in the affiliate business is to market a product you know nothing about. to be successful as an Affiliate Marketer, it is necessary to know a lot about the product or service you are promoting.

You need to understand why and how the product or service you are affiliating with is better than others.

You also need to understand the market this product or service functions.

The above will put in a better perspective to affiliate effectively and ultimately become successful at what you do.

Have an Effective Plan:

Planning for the product or service you want to affiliate is essential for success. This implies having the mindset of the product owner. Put yourself in the shoes of the product owner. Ask yourself this question- If I am the owner of this product, how would I ensure customers buy my offering? Answering the question will help you do good planning.

Effective planning will always ensure your marketing campaign is successful.

Effective planning may include: what product you want to promote, how you will promote such product, identifying the selling points of the products, pricing, the target audience, etc. 

In planning for the products, consider the 5w's- what, who, where, when, and why.

Identify a Niche and Consolidate on that:

Identifying and promoting a niche before moving to another is essential in successful Affiliate Marketing. The reason is that Affiliate Marketing has advanced, sophisticated, and more profitable than it used to be. It is necessary to build your wealth empire one step at a time by choosing a niche and consolidate as you go up the ladder.

It is recommended to build funnels. Build assets and employ strategies that add value to your marketing campaign. It is better to follow such steps rather than developing a one-page promotion.  


I have always told my students that to be successful online, especially in Affiliate Marketing, is to be consistent with what you are doing. Do not let any distractions take you out of your pursuit.

Do  not let one failure to stray your attention away from your dedication. You failed in one product campaign does not mean you are a failure in your Affiliate Marketing business. Recall the words of Winston Churchill "Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."

Consistency breeds continuity in business, while the reverse is the case if you give up in your pursuit.
