Erling Haaland and Manchester City are in the "early stages" of contract negotiations.

In an interview, Fabrizio Romano stated that Manchester City would be open to negotiations with star player Erling Haaland on a new deal.

The Norway international has scored 48 goals in 41 games across all competitions this season, giving Pep Guardiola's team legitimate prospects of winning the treble.

Romano has stated that he is waiting for more information before making any decisions about Haaland's future, as he claims that the present negotiations over a new lease at the Etihad Stadium are still in the preliminary stages.

According to the reporter, City is eager to re-sign Haaland, but it is unclear what kind of terms the 22-year-old would be agreeing to in terms of salary and a potential release clause.

The rumors regarding Erling Haaland's contract are not news to me. When I have more verifiable information, I will write a detailed piece about this," Romano promised.

"At this stage for sure Manchester City would be happy to offer the 22-year-old a new deal," the source said, adding, "but this is something that has to be discussed with player side in the next months, so we're at really early stages and nothing is advanced yet."

With the former Borussia Dortmund man proving to be a brilliant addition to Guardiola's team, City fans will be hoping they can lock down Haaland. He has all the tools to become one of the greats of his time.
